Meet crime fiction author, Ian Austin

Ian Austin was born in England but now lives in Auckland, New Zealand.

After an unremarkable school life, he drifted in and out of jobs before finding his salvation in the Hampshire Police, where he began a career as a constable and later a detective. He also spent time as a tactical firearms officer, covert surveillance operative and National Crime Squad trainer. Ian transferred to the New Zealand Police in 2003, having fallen in love with the country and the Kiwi way of life after several visits.

He left the police force in 2006 to set up his own training and consultancy business, and now lives in rural Tuakau, south of Auckland with his Border Collie Willow.

He began writing in 2010. The Agency in 2012, The Second Grave in 2015 and Frozen Summer in 2019 make up the introductory trilogy of ex-cop and life damaged Dan Calder. Austin's personal history and truly remarkable Police career provide unmatched ammunition and research material for his writing.

In December 2020, January and February 2021 the trilogy was released in eBook format with bespoke eBook covers. In November 2021 Ian’s fourth Dan Calder novel Bonded was released.

Now in 2023 a brand new book is on the way. Calder's back once more but as never seen before. Look out for news on MAN. MADE. throughout the year.
